Is iPad or WePad Better?

The WePad is fast becoming the most interesting of the the iPad competitors. First of all, it has all those things that people are kicking the iPad for leaving out, like USB, an SD slot, multitasking, Flash, and Adobe AIR. The main selling point is the Linux-based operating system, and it also brings tech enthusiasts together with an Android vs. iPhone tablet battle.

The release of the German-manufactured WePad in July may prove more value-for-money, considering the amount of additional features. The foreign gadget offers a slightly larger screen, much faster processor, two USB adapters and a webcam along with other add-on. The WePad official website www.wepad.mobi explains that two major operating systemes, Android and Linux, will run on the WePad, making it more versatile with different programs as software developers come up with new applications.

On the flip side, the iPad is selling at a cheaper price, comparing a 16G WePad will cost $600 while a iPad costs $499. Moreover, the iPad support a longer battery life of 10 hours, as compared with Wepad of 6 hours. As for the weight, Wepad is 120g heavier than ipad with 800g and 680g respectively. Other than these aspects, the Wepad’s spec is far superior than its counterpart in many ways.

In the video above the user is able to plug a mouse into the USB slot on the device. Super useful? Not one bit, but it does show the versatility of the WePad as well as some of the potential it has for the future. The grid-based UI might not be for everyone, but personally I think it looks quite good. Maybe a bit more technical than some people are looking for from their tablet, but just the sort of thing for geekier users.

Neofonie WePad, Android-Based iPad Killer

It’s a tablet war out there, with Apple’s iPad starting a trend that isn’t going to die throughout 2010, you can anticipate that all sorts of competitors will be popping up with their own tablets and slates to strike while the iron is hot. Neofonie is introducing WePad, a German-made unit that promises fast Internet connectivity, complete ready-to-use applications, as well as magazines and newspapers from various publishers via the WeMagazine ePublishing Eco System.

This is a fairly robust tablet with an 11.6″ display (1366×768), a supposing quick 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, a webcam (for video chats, we thought), two USB sockets, a flash card reader, integrated WWAN modem, GMA3150 graphics (far superior than on most e-readers) and a battery that can last six hours, though that claim doesn’t imply under what sort of workloads that the users can perform.

There’s also a set of built-in speakers, and since it’s built around Google’s open Android operating system, applications can be loaded to it after purchase. Other features include 16GB of NAND Flash (32GB optional), a 1.3MP webcam, SIM card slot, Flash/Adobe AIR support, access to the WePad AppStore and Google’s own Android Marketplace, multi-tasking capability, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, optional GPS, an ambient light & motion sensor and an internal microfan to keep things cool. Based on the spec, this certainly looks like a iPad killer. Android is a robust OS, and this display will certainly allow a lot more action to be shown on-screen.

Neofonie Announces WePad 11.6-inch Tablet

Neofonie announces a new tablet launch, titled WePad, is seeking to compete with ipad. Competing the iPad with its 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) display, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, webcam, two USB ports, flash card reader, UMTS modem, and a mooted six hours of battery life, we could see that it will definitely be a big hit, provided the price is reasonable. However, the manufacturer, Neofonie, also has designs on a WePad app store and, if all goes smoothly and according to plan, this thing will sport genuine Google Android and the Android Market. The company also mentions the “WeMagazine publishing ecosystem,” which means getting your own branded device out on the e-reader market. As for us, we will first see the final product before we jump the gun.
